City Plan Services certifiers secure positive outcome in the public interest

As many members will have observed, the Skyview project in Sydney’s north-west has been the subject of considerable scrutiny following reports of “serious defects” within the building.

These concerns led to an Occupation Certificate Prohibition Order being issued by the Building Commissioner in June.

The Order was issued following inspections by NSW Fair Trading’s new building audit team and a Written Directions Notice issued by private certifier, City Plan Services, requiring independent engineering advice.

In recent days, the Building Commissioner lifted the Prohibition Order on the project after reaching an enforceable undertaking with developer Toplace to provide an ongoing inspection and maintenance program backed by financial guarantees.

The AAC is extremely proud to acknowledge the work of City Plan Services and AAC Member, Brendan Bennett for their work in contributing to this positive outcome.

City Plan worked with the Office of the Building Commissioner (OBC) and other stakeholders to secure this positive result in the public interest on what was a complex and challenging job.

Brendan and his team’s work has been rightfully acknowledged by the Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation, the Hon Kevin Anderson MP.

The Building Commission also acknowledged the work of City Plan saying: “This resolution demonstrates the importance of quality certifiers.

This episode demonstrates the positive outcomes that can occur when the OBC and registered certifiers work together.
