NSW Planning Portal Enhancements: simplifying processes for certifiers

The Australian Association of Certifiers has worked with Building Commission NSW and the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to streamline and simplify processes for certifiers in the NSW Planning Portal.

The key improvements are:

  • Return application feature: Previously, applicants couldn't amend a submitted application without the certifier needing to reject the application and start again. With the new feature, certifiers can now return applications with feedback before acceptance, allowing applicants to make necessary amendments. This applies to CDC, CC, OC, SWC, and SC applications.
  • Determination document: The current requirement for a mandatory ‘determination document’ has been identified as unnecessary. The update will make this document optional, reducing administrative burden.
  • CDC subdivision: The standard CDC application process, designed for building work, often requires irrelevant information for subdivision applications. The enhancement will tailor information requirements specifically for subdivision applications, simplifying the process for both applicants and certifiers.
  • Certification reporting: Building on the 2023 implementation for critical stage inspections and written direction notices, a new API is being developed. This will enable certifiers to send their inspections and notices directly from their system to the NSW Planning Portal, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

These enhancements will be implemented by the end of June 2024.
